Presidents Desk

From The President’s Desk:

I have continued to be deeply honoured that the members of Ahiritola Youth Swimming Club, have elected me as the club President in the year 1993. I feel proud to be associated with a club which was established way back in 1885, when it was called the Ahiritola Swimming Club, eminent personalities throughout the history were associated with this club.

It was in the year 1942, that the activities of the club came to a halt, and it was only after a long gap that in the year 1975, that it resumed its activities with a new name “Ahiritola Youth Swimming Club” and it has become a cornerstone ever since that it organises the annual “14 k.m. Long Distance Swimming Competition”. We have over the years nurtured, trained and promoted numerous swimmers and water polo players of national standard. It was for the first time in the country in the year 1992, that the club organised a 35k.m. Long distance swimming competition in tune with the Club’s long history for organising swimming competitions at a national level.

We maintain a life saving unit which renders voluntary service at different puja immersion sites and have been able to save numerous lives from the watery grave. The club has made endeavours to come to the aid of society at large and it is a matter of great pride that we provide treatment to the ailing masses by running “Dr. Malati Allen Charitable Homoeo Clinic”. We have also made concerted to construct a swimming pool and are in talks with the State government in this regard, furthermore we are also looking to purchase life saving equipments and speed boats to equip ourselves to assist the society.
